The launch of a new premodern Caucasian history journal, Caucasia, has been announced. For the benefit of medievalist researchers who may be interested in sharing their research in this forum, we share their announcement below:
Caucasia: Journal of Premodern History of the Caucasus is an open-access journal that aims to provide a scholarly platform that moves beyond predominantly superregional, imperial, or centre-oriented frameworks, which have often shaped research on the region.
Instead, the journal promotes a historical-philological and source-based approach that considers the Caucasus on its own terms, while situating it within broader patterns of interaction and exchange.
At the same time, the journal explicitly encourages contributions that explore the Caucasus in relation to adjacent regions and larger cultural spheres, thereby fostering a more interconnected and nuanced understanding of the area. The journal adopts an international and interdisciplinary perspective, supported by an inclusive and diversified scientific advisory board comprising senior and early-career scholars. Caucasia is a biannual and double-blind peer-reviewed periodical.
Two issues per year will be published and the first issue will appear in 2027. The deadlines for submission are January, 15, and August, 15, respectively. It welcomes contributions up to 8.000words on Armenian, Georgian, Daghestani, Ossetian-Alanian, Caucasian Albanian, Caucasian Christian and Islamic areas. Contributions from a wide range of historical and literary subfields can be submitted in English, German, and French.
